The Cardinals optioned Fermin to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
Analysis: It was reported Friday that Fermin had made St. Louis' Opening Day roster as a utility player, but he'll end up beginning the campaign at Triple-A. The 25-year-old could be up in the majors when the Cardinals need some infield depth.

Fermin has made the Cardinals' Opening Day roster as a utility player, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: He beat out Jose Barrero for a spot on the St. Louis bench. Fermin put up a .924 OPS last season at Triple-A Memphis, but the 26-year-old has failed to find success so far at the major-league level, collecting just a .504 OPS in 140 plate appearances.
